A US study shows that eggs eaten at breakfast with your child would be more satiating than cereals or porridge. A menu that would prevent protein and childhood obesity.
A team of researchers from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing wanted to know the ideal breakfast for lasting calm the appetite of children.
Egg, porridge or cereals: what is the ideal breakfast?
For this, they analyzed three types of breakfasts 350 calories (eggs, porridge and cereals) to find out which led to a more sustainable satiety. They asked 40 volunteers aged 8 to 10 years of eating one of three breakfasts in full, once a week over a period of three weeks.
After the meal, the children could play with researchers before lunch during which they ate what they wanted. Scientists asked during the morning regularly participants if they were hungry, how much food they could ingest. It is the parents which recorded feeding children the rest of the day.
The eggs would eat less at noon
The results, published in the journal Eating Behaviors show that after three weeks of experience, children who ate breakfast with eggs (scrambled eggs, wholemeal bread, peach dice and a glass of milk ) ate less at lunch.
Specifically, they reduced their consumption by 70 calories, the equivalent of a chocolate cookie. A 4% reduction of food intake in a day.
Eggs: no results on other meals
If they ate less, they do not feel hungry reported less ... "That did not amazed that eggs offered the most nutritious breakfast. What surprises me is that the kids n had not feel more satisfied by eggs as cereals or porridge, even if they ate less at lunch, "says Tanja Kral, author of the study.
Another small problem: if the protein breakfasts with eggs allowed to "stall" the children longer, their composition did not affect the amount of food eaten after lunch.
Recall that snacking or eating more than what the body needs, may eventually lead to obesity.
