A study published in the medical journal Pain, suggests that the chronic pain of fibromyalgia could be reduced by vitamin D supplementation
muscular-skeletal disorder affecting 2-5% of the French population, fibromyalgia is characterized not widespread pain causing chronic fatigue or sleep disturbances. If there is no real treatment suitable for this disabling disease, research has already shown that it can be relieved by therapies that often proved effective. Thus, physical therapy, cognitive-behavioral, drug treatments, acupuncture or oxygen have proven their benefits to some extent and some symptoms of fibromyalgia.
In a recent study, Austrian researchers at the Orthopaedic Hospital in Speising, wanted to test the effects of vitamin D on the disease. For this, they conducted a test on 30 women with fibromyalgia and lack of vitamin D. Half received vitamin D supplementation for 20 weeks, the other nothing. "So we investigated whether increased vitamin D levels in these patients could relieve pain and cause a general improvement in associated symptoms," says Dr. Florian Wepner, author of the study.
In view of the findings, the researchers did find a reduction in the intensity of pain still felt 24 weeks after stopping treatment with vitamin D. Scientists have also been noted in patients improved physical functioning and reduced fatigue between the 1st and the 20th week of supplementation.
These results again demonstrate the benefits of vitamin D in our body. While 58% of French know a vitamin D deficiency, the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm) recalls that "exposure to the sun, the practice of physical activity and maintaining a stable and 'normal' weight would be full of this essential nutrient for health "
