Pregnancy: Vitamin D to the rescue of allergies in children?

A team of medical school researchers from Mount Sinai Icahn (USA) found that the consumption of vitamin D by pregnant women reduce the risk of asthma and allergy in children.
The study, published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, could well push mothers to eat more foods rich in vitamin D throughout their pregnancy.

Allergy: less risk in children vitamin D eaters

The scientists followed 1,248 mothers and their babies, the first trimester of pregnancy until 7 years old children.
During pregnancy, allergy tests were performed at birth and at the time of education on the mother and the child. The researchers also asked the women to establish a list of foods containing vitamin D they consumed.
Results: eating foods rich in vitamin D during pregnancy up to 25% reduced risk of developing asthma and allergies in children.
For mothers who have taken supplementation (in the form of food supplements, for example) of vitamin D, no reduction in risk was observed.

Sources of vitamin D preferred
