Chocolate makes (really) good for pregnant women

We know: Sometimes pregnant women have "weird cravings", especially in food: all of a sudden, because of - among others - hormonal changes, you want a basket of strawberries, mackerel oil, grilled salmon, spicy guacamole ... or chocolate. And that's good: according to a recent study from Laval University (Canada), dark chocolate is good for health of the mother and baby.

Ultra concentrated in antioxidants and more particularly flavonoids (such as catechin and epicatechin), this food promote growth of the fetus, the placenta help preserve and protect us from disease such as preeclampsia (a specific hypertension respect about 8% of pregnancies).

To arrive at these results, the researchers followed 129 pregnant women (between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy) for 12 weeks. Every day, half of the participants consumed 30 g of dark chocolate. Result? At the end of the experiment, scientists have noticed better blood flow in areas of the uterus and placenta in volunteers who consumed a daily chocolate.

Rich in magnesium (which lowers blood pressure), potassium (which facilitates the work of the kidneys) and theobromine (which fight against depression), chocolate decidedly all. Provided to choose the 70% minimum cocoa!
